Fourche
Creek Information
Green Examples
The number of green buildings and developments in and near
the Fourche Creek Watershed is constantly growing. Below are
some examples of a variety of green practices in use in Little
Rock. If you know of a good example that should be included
on this page, feel free to e-mail Johnnie.
WinRock (map)
The WinRock Foundation building, located at 2101 Riverfront
Drive, has a variety of green features. Much of the landscaping
is comprised of native grasses, trees, and wildflowers; lowering
the need for irrigation and providing valuable wildlife habitat.
The site also captures stormwater runoff for later use. Much
of the building was made from recycled or locally produced
materials and large glass windows let in plenty of sunlight,
reducing the need for interior lighting. The building is rated
LEED Gold. More information can be found at: http://www.winrock.org/GoldAward.asp

Dee Brown Library (map)
Located at 6325 Baseline Rd., the award winning Dee Brown
Library makes use of geothermal wells, minimal site clearing,
natural daylighting, and optimized solar site orientation.
These features help protect the local environment while saving
the Library 30% on energy bills. More information can be found
at: http://www.fpharchitects.com

Pulaski County Criminal Justice Building
(map)
The recently renovated Pulaski County Criminal Justice building
is a great example of green renovation. By retrofitting an
existing building the County saved lots of money, materials,
and energy. The use of pervious pavement and vegetated bioswales
on the site decreases runoff, improved water quality, and
supplies water for the native landscaping. More information
can be found at: http://www.fpharchitects.com

Woodglen Neighborhood (map)
This neighborhood is currently under construction. Solar energy
will be used for much of the construction process and homes
will be built to be very energy efficient and to use solar
energy.

Woodlands Edge (map)
This neighborhood has won multiple awards and has incorporated
many Low Impact Development features. By limiting grading,
storm drain piping, and tree clearing, this development protects
water quality and maintains a forested feel.

Homes at 15th and Rock (map)
These homes were built recently with a focus on energy efficiency
and green construction.

Clinton Library (map)
While not actually that energy efficient, the Clinton Library
has many green features and is certified LEED Platinum. The
library offers green tours highlighting the buildings solar
panels, green roof, renewable construction materials, and
other green features.

Heifer
International (map)
Located at 1 World Avenue, near the Clinton Presidential Library,
this LEED Platinum site has numerous green features. For more
