How You Can Help Policy
and Outreach
Audubon Arkansas is currently working
to improve awareness and protection of Fourche Creek and its
tributaries. Please let your elected officials in the city,
county, state, and federal government know that you care about
Fourche Creek and would like to see if protected.
Talking points:
Local officials: Fourche Creek
is an amazing and largely unknown educational and recreational
resource. We need to do more to improve water quality in
our watershed and protect streambanks on public lands. Fourche
Creek is listed on the 303d list for turbidity, most of
which is entering our creeks from poorly managed construction
sites. Please pass new ordinances and enforce existing ordinances
to prevent these sites from destroying our local waterways.
We should do more to improve access to and awareness of
Fourche Creek and its tributaries. Buying up floodplains
for City Parks and building trails along these creeks would
be a great way to do this. Please support the Open
Space Policy Initiative.
Federal officials: There are
multiple Corps of Engineers programs meant to benefit Fourche
Creek but every year they receive little or no funding.
Please fund the Urban
Rivers Restoration Initiative and the unfinished aspects
of the Fourche Bayou Basin Project.
